Kota Belud Sunday Market
Also known as ‘Pasar Tamu’, this weekend bazaar has a carnival-like atmosphere. Colourful and lively, the Sunday market is filled with villagers and horsemen trading their wares in their traditional garments. Traders from all tribes - such as the Bajau, the Dusun and the Irranun - as well as Obian Muslim and Chinese traders congregate here every week to offer a huge array of goods such as craftwork, mountain-grown vegetables, wild orchids, chili-laced dried fish, succulent tropical fruits, livestock and edible seaweed. It is as much a social event as it is a weekend market.
